Here at Black Country Firewood everything we sell is “Ready to Burn” and will go straight on your fire. It will not need months of drying before you use it, so will not take up valuable space in your home.
Both our barn dried and kiln dried options can be stored in enclosed spaces, such as a garage or storage box, the drier you can keep them the better they will perform. Logs can also be stored outside in a log store, any weathering will not drastically affect them as weathering will only cause external moisture on the log and this will easily dry off when logs are brought inside.
Bringing enough logs inside for one or two days burning is the recommended amount as it saves too many logs being stacked around the fire and causing a hazard. They should be stored in a log basket or log rack when near the fireplace and not in contact with the fire. Being in the home will allow any external moisture to dry before using the logs which will give better burning performance.
Although the barn dried logs are around 20% moisture they can be left in a traditional style of log store with ventilated panels and good sun exposure will dry the logs slightly more over time, however they will only get so dry - hence why logs are kiln dried to get them bone dry to under 15% moisture.
Here at Black Country Firewood we make our own traditional style log stores. We stock a variety of different sizes and can even make bespoke sized stores. Our “standard size” will hold one loose truck load and the half size variations will comfortably hold one bulk bag. We have the capability to deliver both the store and logs at the same time.
It is recommended that the traditional log stores is positioned in a sheltered area to reduce rain ingress, however it is also good to have them in an area that catches the sun so logs can dry easily after any adverse weather. The ventilated panels help with air flow to stop logs going mouldy and reduce stale air which will give a musky smell to the logs. The stores also have floor panels that sit 2.5inches off the floor so air can run underneath the logs and stop the logs drawing moisture up from the ground.
If the thought of stacking logs in a log store seems hard work, we unload the bulk bag from the rear of the truck and if we can get the truck to your garage we can drop the bag straight into the garage!
