Where do the logs keep coming from?

Here at Black Country Firewood we try to keep a supply of logs all year round - although at some parts of the year we may run out of certain variations - but we always have dry logs for sale.

We do not cut up any logs in the wet winter months, all our cutting up is done in the spring and summer. This is generally when the weather is drier, therefore dust and debris do not stick to the logs and keeps them clean. 

Cutting in the spring and summer months also helps to spread the workload on staff members as it is the time of year when deliveries decrease. Although there is always at least one delivery truck running all year round. 

Timber is brought in all year round from forestry contractors 24tonnes at a time. It is in long round lengths called cord wood. All cord wood supplied to us is FSC approved (wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council).

It is then left to mature and dry over a number over months before being cut up with our log processors. These machines are powered by tractors and take the length of cordwood, cut it the longer length into smaller rounds and splits the rounds into the appropriate number of logs.  

Depending on the type of logs they will go through different drying processes, then they are loaded up from the processing site and back to the Firewood Centre ready to be sold.
